Pleasant Valley Promenade

Raleigh, North Carolina
Client: Schurgin Development
350,000 Square Feet
1988

Pleasant Valley Promenade's 390,000 square feet of gross leasable area combined prime location, intelligent planning and easy access in the fastest growth area in Raleigh at the time, with a major powerhouse regional mall located less than a mile from the center. It was one of the first shopping centers to  be referred to as a "power center" in trade magazines.

Perdue has consistently pursued the best quality products for his designs. Pleasant Valley Promenade's skylights* allowed managed, natural daylight to illuminate the interior mall.

*A unique technology of Structures Unlimited, Inc.'s self-supporting aluminum structure blended with Kalwall® translucent sandwich panels to form a total composite system ... pre-engineered, prefabricated and factory pre-finished for trouble-free, energy-efficient, maintenance-free performance.

DAA's structural concept utilized a unique application of both precast and poured-in-place concrete to their maximum economic and structural advantage.

Use of neon lighting, color, space frames and decorative banners provided an exciting and inviting shopping environment both day and night.

A deep, narrow parcel of land presented unusual site layout and design problems to accommodate the desired square footage and provide needed visibility for shops and signage. Perdue developed the site with the shopping center being inward-focused.
