Brierwood Village Plaza

Baymeadows at Kings Road
New 127,000 SF
Client: National Merchandise Company
Cost: Approx. $3 million
1976
A Times-Union article described the planned Baymeadows Shopping Center as, "A mini-mall in a contemporary design new to Florida."

The center was a combination mall and shopping center, built in a small concentrated area but with an open air, wood beamed ceiling covering the shops between two majors, Pic 'N Save and Winn Dixie, both featuring new contemporary designs. The center's design was popular in California and some northern states, and was intended to fit the mall's appearance into the landscape of the surrounding area. In addition to the chain's first contemporary design, the Winn Dixie was the chain's first delicatessen in Jacksonville, as well as a gourmet and specialty food section. Perdue designed the center to be a neighborhood shopping center where people came for daily convenience items. Renovated and expanded Town and Country Shopping Center in Arlington, another Perdue project during this period, included a new Pic 'N Save store with the new prototype, and the open-wood connecting area between the existing and new areas of the shopping center.

Atlantic Boulevard across from Regency Square.
Originally a 180,000 square foot strip mall built in the early 1970's, in 1997 the exterior of the shopping center was remodeled using warm, coordinating colors.

The former Winn Dixie space was renovated into a new OfficeMax store, the parking lot was completely redesigned and traffic patterns in the center were improved. The renovation helped Regency Plaza become one of the strongest focal points in the bustling Regency retail area.
